Volta

The "Volta" project was created with the collaboration of European Solidarity Corps volunteers and workers of the Agios Athanasios accommodation facility for unaccompanied asylum seeker minors, with the support of the Asylum, Migration & Integration Found.

The aim of this project is to facilitate the transition of adolescents into adulthood, where they will not have as much support as they do now as minors. We want to show the unaccompanied minors different places of interest for bureaucratic procedures, such as renewing their permit card, applying for a social security number, and so on. We will also introduce them to places of historical interest in the city and points that can be useful for their daily life, places with free wifi, public sports facilities, the hospital, etc.

Therefore, we have created three materials, a video, a pamphlet and a virtual map, pointing out the places that may be of interest to the beneficiaries. In addition, there will be several tours around the city in small groups in which we will have linguistic support from intercultural mediators of the facility.

We will group the teenagers in small language groups in order to have language support from the intercultural mediator. We will start asking them several questions such as:

  • How long have you been in Ioannina?
  • Do you know where the asylum office is?
  • Do you know how to get to the hospital in case of an emergency?
  • Do you know where you can renew your permit?

After a discussion about the previous questions, we will watch the video created by the ESC volunteers which will be subtitled in their mother tongue.

After the video we will proceed to distribute the pamphlets and show the minors what they can find on the virtual map and how they can use it.

We will start the tour at the YC Epirus offices and make several interesting stops to talk about the services that can be found in these institutions. This information will be prepared by members of the social team of the facility.
